Moanalua High School
2825 Ala Ilima Street,
Honolulu, HI 96818

Dear Moanalua High School Administration,

I have been attending Moanalua high school for two years, and I am pleased with the campus being a nice environmental space, and with a nice facility to attend to.

However, I have experienced some problems in using the schools bathrooms. One thing that I have experienced was the odor that lingers through the bathrooms, M and G building bathrooms for example. The smell of the bathroom is not completely repulsive, but it is bad enough to make the bathroom experience uncomfortable. The bathroom experience that makes me want to not bother of entering is just how bad the odor affect you time in using the bathroom, and how you can used the bathroom in peace without smelling that bad odor. To my attention this has not only affects me but other people around the school campus. Therefore there is more than one problem in the bathrooms, another problem would be where there is no locks that can keep the doors shut, H building would be another example. I know that the bathrooms are cleaned twice a day but it’s not just about the toilets and urinals but they have to do something about the odor.

Things that we could do to make the bathroom and nicer and cleaner environment would be that we can some how take some money out of the school to put air fresheners in them so it can make the odor escape.

All though I don’t have enough evidence I cant explain a whole lot of things that are problems to the bathrooms, I just believe that one thing that we can do is try our best to stop the smell and the bathrooms a cleaner place.

I have no problems with the schools facilities but its just that the bathrooms are not a nice place to be at.

Risky Business

Ryan Souza Period 2

There has been a case of 6 teenagers reported at the ER for the abuse of drinking hand sanitizer. Teen now days use house hold items as a drug or to get a buzz. For example drinking hand sanitizer is the same as consuming about 6oz of straight alcohol. Since drinking alcohol and smoking underage is illegal for teenagers they use household items because they are legal and is now a problem today. Now teens don’t only abuse hand sanitizer but they also abuse straight alcohol, cough syrup, inhalants, mouthwash, and sniffing spray paint.

First, one thing that is a con to this is that people think that this not a problem and that it is just a joke and to be cool and funny. Well they don’t realize that if you consume only 6oz of hand sanitizer that is the amount that will send you to the hospital if consumption of more than 6oz that can be a cause to death. People may think that this is not bad people are just trying to tell you it’s bad for you to no do it, well by abusing these house hold item like sniffing paint, or even drinking straight alcohol. They will cause you to have brain damage and you cells would die one by one. Also the reason why people do this is because they know that it’s not illegal and it easy to find and purchase.

Secondly, although there’s many ways to get a buzz, but this is a way to get a same buzz and of smoking or drinking alcohol. Therefore there are easy to find and easy to get like I said earlier kids at the sage of 12 can go and just walk into the store for example longs and just grab alcohol to clean cuts , hand sanitizer to clean hands, and cough syrup cause there sick. See there are many ways and excuses to get these items and the cashiers would never know because they think that they will use it for a good cause but when they find out that the kid was showed at the ER then they worry.

Lastly, why do teens use household items as another drug? Well teens use household items as a drug because they want a buzz, therefore they can’t have that availability to get cigarettes, beer, and also weed. Although they can get cheap things and get a buzz to and to top that off its not illegal to drink hand sanitizer so they do are if they ever got caught. So basically saying that if people keep on doing this then it will turn out to be illegal then kids may be cautioned about it but doesn’t mean that they would stop doing it.

In conclusion teens now day look to get in to mysterious thing and try different things just to fit in or maybe to look cool and think that there all bad, but at the end of the day they don’t realize that what they’re doing can cause death and  damage the brain severely. All in all abusing house hold items isn’t such a great idea unless you’re ready to give you life’s and dreams away. So just think twice before abusing household items.

College Essay

The Oregon state university is the college that I would be joyed to attend not only for the good athletics but for great academics because Oregon is the school that can push me to my limits to come out of the successful. The college of Oregon is a great way that I can start my culinary career and also have a chance to play baseball for the ducks. This can help me to improve on my different skills that can help me become my future job, also I can maybe enhance my skills in baseball and maybe have a chance to play professional baseball. I would also like to mention that the community service that I have attended was the winter craft fair in 2011 by setting up for all of the venders and lead them to their booths, also going to the fishing convention to help clean and set up for all of the  venders and help them with the products. This college is one more step to take until I can call myself and adult because by being able to attend Oregon would be a pleasure because I can express my ideas about how I think it’s right to cook and how other people can teach me the correct ways so I can fix my mistakes a d learn what things I need to cover to reach for my goal. From me coming from a hard time by seeing my parents fighting and divorcing each other I learned that there more than just fighting and getting married you have to achieve what you want to do then get married. I came from a family who would always be there for you no matter what. this college is like my future to dream of stepping on to that campus and just saying wow I made it also I would say to myself wow I reached my goal in life now there is one more step I got to study hard and get good grades. My high school years I learned that there’s more to life than having fun and fooling around I have to pay attention and do my work by that it can make me more closer to my goal and make me a more better person because I use to always slack off and goof around now in college I got to understand that I have to give my time and dedication to work hard and be successful. In conclusion I think that I can reach this goal but only if I have the mind, heart, power, and soul and to put in my dedication and my time to complete my achievement.

                                         Coming of age

                                                           By Ryan Souza

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!! As I hear the sound of my alarm going off at 6:30a.m that was the sign that I knew it was game day. As I stretched out of my bed just wishing I could sleep in I do a quick prayer that said “dear lord just lets us have a good day today and let me do my best amen”. Just with a quick splash of water in my face I am awake. This story is the time that I realized that I just needed one more person to watch my game and that was my great grandma.

As the league announcer pronounces welcome to the Aiea little leagues all start tournament. At that moment I knew that it was time to play some baseball. “Ryan Souza your up to bat” when I heard my name I glared into the fans and could not spot out my great grandma, not even my mom was there so at that moment I knew something was up. So I the moment I go into the plate I do my best to focus but my mind is saying “where is ever one”. Strike one, strike two, strike three I am out.

On July 10 was my grandmas birthday and she had the biggest and priceless smile on her face. My grandma means so much to me by teaching me so much about life and how to cook one dish she taught cook was her papaya soup from dicing the papaya, to making the both and then serving it to the family. To me my grandma was my idol she taught me how to show respect to other people and just to live life the way you want to live it and no one else can change you.

“Here we go Aiea here we go” it was the bottom of the sixth inning with us up 2 runs against Honolulu. We were on the field with two out, then all of a sudden a straight line shot was hit to me and I caught it for the third out. So as I ran in I finally seen my mom and for some reason she was sprinting down the hill and called my name “Ryan Ryan” so as I ran to her she said “baaban (great grandma) passed away and all of a sudden my heart just drop and I was tearing so much I had to leave my game. As we rushed to the house I could just see cars parked anywhere. So as I walked up the stairs I couldn’t look or even wave I rushed pass the room my grandma was in and went it to the other room and just laid there just saying god how come it had to happen now lord and I just cried and cried.

This had made me become such stronger person because I knew it was time for her and she had left me with a lot of good experience from here. I knew that it was time for her to pass and as she can live a happy life up there instead of her suffering down here. She knew that it was time for her to go because she couldn’t teach me more than what she already had. Even though I really miss her she can still make me a good person even though she not here. I learned that I can move on with the lessons she has gave me and I will always love her.

writting position statement

Tourist and the blow hole

The case on Mr.Potts, the 44 year old man who came down to vist the nakalele point located in maui which was the site of there blow hole and accidently feel into the blow hole when a big wave shot up the hole. So it turned out that the next 3 day Potts was no where to be found. So i think that it f Potts family would try to sue our state they would be wrong bcause in the paper it tells that there where signs that said "park and walk at your own risk",Potts family may think that that is just wrong to use that against them but its true and same for all the other familys about there family members dying . All in all i belive that if our state could put more signs to show that its off limits then maybe people will lisen and there would be no one else to blame but them because they should be warned by the signs.
