Ryan's Laulau Recipe Essay

Ryan why did you drop my pans  of Laulau?!” … she said… “Sorry mom”… I replied. It all began in the year 2000, it was the smell of goodness. I was brought up with this dish called Lau Lau.

My mom and uncle had a shop called “Good Deal Market”. Their Lau Lau was one of the best on the island. The shop opened on January 15, 2000. As I walked into the shop I could smell the goodness of all the ingredients mixing together. My mom’s ingrediants was pork butt, tea leaf, and butter fish.

She started by placing 5 tea leaf down into a star shape then places 5 pieces of pork butt in the middle and one piece if butter fish, then wraps it into a triangular shape.

This dish was always asked to be made from family members. My grandma always use to take us to the shop to eat. As I ate my mom yells “who ate two of my Lau Lau?!”  Then I would always blame it on my brother Troy. Fish dish was a family favorite from the pot to the dinner table. We all loved it.

  1. Hi Ryan.

I like how you added a little history to this dish such as how your mom and uncle had a shop that made Lau Lau. It makes me want to try your family's Lau Lau because you said it was the best on the island, haha. But when I first saw your essay I noticed the length of your paragraphs.. I think your essay's a little short. I think you should add more sensory detail and a little more family history. Maybe even tell us a story. & When you do all of that, I think your essay will turn out really great :D I'll be looking forward to seeing your final essay.

  2. Hey ryan !! So far so good. I like how you put a lot of history into you're essay, but you need to write some moreee !! In the third paragraph there was only one sentence ! So just make sure to write more and you'll be good. Also, i liked how you added those little stories about the dish. But i think you could add some more sensory details about how you're family makes the Laulau. But overall good essay ! Just work on those things that me and maurice said and you're essay would be much better.

  3. Souza,
Your essay is very much like a story, and I like it because I can imagine you hitting all the pans down. You give a lot of history, and was very specific in giving the instructions, and thats good. But, you just need to spend a little more time on maybe going deeper into explanation. This will altogether make your essay more interesting, and longer.
